EvidenceGate Documentation

Welcome to the official documentation for the EvidenceGate systematic review software. This guide will help you understand how to effectively use the software for managing and conducting systematic reviews.

Introduction

EvidenceGate is a powerful tool designed to streamline the process of conducting systematic reviews. It provides features for managing projects, screening records, deduplicating data, and exporting results. Whether you are conducting a review for academic research or policy development, EvidenceGate has the tools to assist you.

Features Overview

EvidenceGate includes a variety of features to support systematic reviews:

  • Project Management: Create and manage multiple systematic review projects.
  • Record Screening: Efficiently screen and categorize records using inclusion and exclusion criteria.
  • Deduplication: Automatically detect and remove duplicate records to maintain data integrity.
  • Exporting Data: Export your screened and processed data in various formats for further analysis or reporting.
  • Customizable Workflows: Adapt the software to your specific review process with flexible options.

Getting Started

To begin using EvidenceGate, follow these steps:

  1. Sign Up: Register for an account on the EvidenceGate platform.
  2. Create a New Project: Navigate to the dashboard and click "Create New Project". Fill in the required details.
  3. Upload Records: Upload your initial set of records (e.g., from Scopus or Web of Science) for the project.
  4. Start Screening: Begin the screening process using the predefined criteria.
  5. Deduplicate Records: Use the deduplication tool to remove any duplicate entries.

Deduplication Process

The deduplication process in EvidenceGate is designed to ensure that your systematic review data is free of duplicates, which can arise from multiple sources or repeated imports. Here's how the deduplication mechanism works:

  • Identification of Duplicates: The software identifies duplicates based on unique identifiers such as DOI (Digital Object Identifier) and the title of the record. If two records share the same DOI or a highly similar title, they are flagged as potential duplicates.
  • Comparison of Records: The system compares each record's title and DOI against all other records in the same project. The comparison is case-insensitive and trims extra spaces to ensure accuracy.
  • Automatic Deletion of Duplicates: Once a duplicate is identified, the system automatically removes the redundant record from the database, keeping only the first occurrence.
  • Progress Tracking: During the deduplication process, the system provides real-time progress updates, showing the number of records processed and the number of duplicates removed.
  • Post-Deduplication Report: After the process is complete, EvidenceGate generates a summary report indicating how many records were processed and how many duplicates were removed.

By following these steps, EvidenceGate ensures that your dataset is clean and reliable, allowing you to proceed with confidence in your systematic review.

Exporting Data

EvidenceGate allows you to export your screened and deduplicated data in various formats for further analysis or reporting. You can choose to export included records, excluded records, or all records within a project.
